Sierra Training Services offers official American Heart Association Instructor Courses in Northern California throughout the year. An AHA Instructor course will teach the methods needed to effectively instruct others in resuscitation courses. The AHA requires that instructors be at least 16 years of age for both HeartSaver Instructor and BLS Instructor. The ideal Instructor Candidate should be motivated to teach, facilitate learning and ensure students acquire the skills necessary for successful course completion. The ideal Instructor Candidate uses student assessment as a way to improve individual knowledge and skills. Sierra Training Services American Heart Association BLS Instructor course is a fun full day packed with information that is valuable in helping you reach your full potential when you teach your course. Our instructors have experience in each class and field that they teach and you will learn from our experiences. Sierra Training Services will be there for you to help guide you through the class and help you succeed after the class. Our classes can be taught at your location saving you time and money. As an American heart Association Instructor you must maintain liability insurance to help protect you and your students. When you sign up to take Sierra Training Services American Heart Association BLS Instructor Course you will be automatically added to our Professional Liability Insurance at no extra charge. We look forward to seeing you in class and If you have any questions please contact our office @ 209-257-3568 or email jyelinek@sierratraining.net PROCESS OF BECOMING A BLS INSTRUCTOR: • Be accepted by an AHA Training Center prior to enrolling in the Instructor Course and have a completed Instructor Candidate Application on file with that Training Center (Details below in section 7) • Have current American Heart Association BLS Healthcare Provider Card and be proficient in all the skills • If you do not have a current BLS Healthcare Provider Card please go to www.americanheart.sierratraining.net to complete the class • Before class successfully complete the BLS Instructor Essentials Online and print the certificate of completion (Details below in section 6) • Successfully complete the BLS classroom Instructor Course • Successfully complete being monitored teaching a BLS Course within three (3) months of completing the classroom Instructor Course (Details below in section 8) PREREQUISITES: • BLS Instructors must be at least 16 years of age • Have current American Heart Association BLS Healthcare Provider Card • Align with an AHA Training Center accepting new Instructors (Details below in section 6) • Completed the BLS Instructor Essentials Course prior to class. (BLS Instructor Manual required to complete) REGISTRATION AND PAYMENT: Registration and payment for the BLS Instructor Course MUST be received prior to class. There are no reservations without payment. Class confirmation, directions, and study materials are sent by email Book can be mailed for an additional $5. Because the BLS Instructor Course covers a lot of material in a relatively short time, advanced preparation is required. Instructor Essentials must be completed prior to class. Register early, classes fill-up quickly. TEXTBOOK/ MANUAL POLICY: AHA policy states, "Each student must have the current, appropriate textbook readily available before, during and after the course." The BLS Instructor Manual MUST be brought to the class. The BLS Instructor Manual may be purchased from Sierra Training Services for $42. The manual can be picked up prior to class or mailed for an additional $5. The manual is required to complete the BLS Instructor Essentials. BLS INSTRUCTOR ESSENTIALS COURSE (90-1429): REQUIRED Completion of the Instructor Essentials Course is required to become an AHA Instructor and to renew Instructor status with Sierra Training Services. The Instructor Essentials Course is an online, self-directed, and discipline-specific course. The BLS Instructor Essentials is purchased from Sierra Training Services for $35. The BLS Instructor Essentials covers planning and preparation for courses, instructing courses, conducting written exams and skills testing and keeping your BLS Instructor status current. It includes approximately 30 minutes of general information about instructing AHA courses, followed by course-specific information. Student must have the Instructor Manual to complete this online course. The BLS Instructor Essentials is a one-time only requirement. Continuing education credits are offered by AHA for the BLS Instructor Essentials Course. Approximate Essentials Course completion time is 2 hours. Upon completion of the BLS Instructor Essentials Course, the Student prints a certificate of completion which must be brought to the classroom Instructor Course. Essentials Course MUST be completed prior to attending class. There is no additional fee to email Instructor Essentials Course Key. All sales of Course Key Numbers are final. These numbers cannot be returned once they have been issued. TRAINING CENTER ALIGNMENT: American Heart Association requires Instructor Candidates to align with an authorized Training Center that is accepting new Instructors when signing up for an Instructor Course. Sierra Training Services automatically aligns you with our Training Site and with our Training Center The CPR Lady and we do not charge an additional alignment fee. If Student is aligned with another TC, please inform Sierra Training Services in advance and bring a completed Instructor Candidate Application to class signed by that Training Center’s Training Center Coordinator. COURSE MONITORING: Instructor status is granted and an Instructor card is issued after the Student successfully completes the Instructor Course and demonstrates his or her teaching skills while being monitored during a BLS Provider or BLS Provider Renewal Course. The monitoring must take place within three months of completing the BLS Instructor Course. If Student is aligned with another Training Center, monitoring will be done and Instructor Card issued by that Training Center. Sierra Training Services will do our best to notify you in advance when your two year instructor period is about to expire. At this time you will need to be monitored during a BLS class or take our BLS instructor renewal class and same fee applies to both.
